New Announcement

Former Houston City Council Members Ada Edwards and Jew Don Boney Announce Support for Larry Green

Candidate for Houston City Council District K Receives Support from Respected Past Council Members

Larry Green, candidate for the newly created Houston City Council District K, continues to gain support from community leaders in the Houston area. Ada Edwards and Jew Don Boney, both former Houston City Council members who represented the Hiram Clarke portion of District K,  have announced their support for his candidacy.

"Larry's experience, community involvement, and personal connection to the District K community confirmed for me that he is the best candidate," said Ada Edwards. "As a former Houston City Council member who represented areas that are now a part of District K, I know the needs of this community. I am confident Larry can give the residents of District K the experienced leadership they deserve."

Green currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Houston Works USA, a workforce development non-profit organization dedicated to bringing jobs to Houston and partnering with Houston businesses to match them with job seekers who can help them to advance their companies. He formerly served as the Vice President of Development and Government Affairs for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and as a District Director for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

After being admitted into the Texas Bar in 1992, Green established and ran his own private practice in Houston for nearly 14 years and litigated cases that ranged from civil rights to matters related to defending the rights of Houston employees. He relocated to Washington, D.C. for several years and served as a government affairs consultant and represented the clients before the Houston City Council, the Texas Legislature and with the federal appropriations process.

"Larry is exactly the kind of brother we need who understands the struggles we face during these tough economic times," said Jew Don Boney. "He has my full support. I have great confidence in his ability to lead."

Green's campaign platform includes improved community safety, robust economic development, job creation and securing more resources for District K.

"I am honored to have the support of such influential leaders in the Houston community," Green said. "Ada Edwards and Jew Don Boney have decades of hands-on experience working to give the Houston area residents the programs and initiatives they need to continue to succeed. Their support is an important step in helping me to continue my effort to improve the neighborhoods in District K."

Larry Green Begins Race for District K City Council Seat
Established community leader announces his plans to represent District K

HOUSTON, TX - Larry Green was cheered on by Houston’s most respected community and political leaders last Tuesday night as he announced his run for the newly created City Council District K seat. Attendees were enthusiastic about supporting Green and his move into local politics.

After years of assisting the disadvantaged through his law practice, serving as District Director for Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee, and helping local Houstonians find jobs, Green decided to enter the race. Green’s decision comes from his passion to represent the community he grew up in. He is a product of District K, having gone from Hobby Elementary to Dowling Middle, finally graduating from Madison High School.

“I know these people, they are my neighbors, and now I want to use my skills and experience to help District K improve infrastructure, bring jobs and economic development to the area, improve safety in the neighborhood, and make sure District K receives its fair share of city resources,” said Green.

And it seems several political and community leaders agree with Green as they were among the over 90 names listed as part of the host committee.

“I am honored to have the support of my family, coworkers, fellow alumnae from Madison and Texas Southern University, and fellow members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated; however I am most proud to have the opportunity to represent my neighbors,” Green concluded.

Larry Green currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Houston Works USA, a workforce development non-profit organization dedicated to bringing jobs to Houston. He formerly served as the Vice President of Development and Government Affairs for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and as a District Director for Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee.
